『文书』是留学申请过程中的灵魂（二）

听大咖说：一篇好文书究竟是怎样的？

文书需要呈现的是一个真实的、与众不同的你自己。文书是申请学校的关键所在，所以新通对于学生的文书非常重视，在新通，我们文书的撰写，是以学生为核心，指导学生完成自己的文书，杜绝代写。因为一篇好的文书，一定要融入学生自己的感情，才能更加真实，更加具有感染力。

通常我们会按照以下流程来指导学生撰写文书：

1）素材收集：由从业经验丰富的专业文书老师，指导学生收集素材，整理自己的过往经历，汇总可用的资源，形成学生自己的文书“工具包”。

2）头脑风暴：由文书老师、顾问老师一起，与学生、家长进行现有素材的整合，确定选题，梳理文书撰写思路，挖掘学生自身的亮点，确定写作框架。

3）撰写修改：由学生撰写文书初稿，文书老师进行批改，经过反复的润色修改，最终完成学生的文书。在整个撰写中，新通的文书老师、顾问老师会随时与学生沟通，了解文书写作进度，给予指导。

4）申请递交：由顾问及文书老师，指导学生进行网申填写、提交审核材料，协助学生做好材料的翻译及递交工作。

下面，就用真实的文书案例，为大家来做解析：

案例①

学生档案：最终获录艾姆赫斯特学院，同时获得来自布朗大学、斯坦福大学、耶鲁大学、韦尔斯利学院等学校的offer。

备注：艾姆赫斯特是美国最具盛名的文理学院之一，素有“小常青藤”之称，与威廉姆斯学院，卫斯理大学合称小三强（Little Three）。

文书节选：Fedja’s cousin keeps a piece of a bomb in a glass-doored cabinet, the way someone might store a china vase. It was from the time a shell fell into the dining room. When the air cleared, Fedja found his chair studded with scraps of twisted metal where he had been seated only a moment before. I would not touch the piece when they held it toward me. I did not want to touch this death, this confirmation of the horror I would have to acknowledge if I held it in my hand.

I lay in my bed that night in the reconstructed building that had been Fedia’s grandmother’s home, and I thought of screaming and fear and laughter and silence. I tried to remember to breathe.

这篇文书最大的亮点是学生在萨拉热窝做志愿者的经历，文章中，用了刮花的玻璃、烧焦的味道、斑驳的墙壁、孤立的烟囱等细节描述，去渲染学生与死亡擦肩而过的惊险，对现实的描述，也让阅读的人有身临其境的感受。文中，学生用一个炸弹碎片的来历，将整篇文章推向高潮，用“触碰碎片似乎就在触碰死亡”这样的描述方式，将学生当时的心理状态描述的淋漓尽致，给读者留下深刻的印象。正是这样活灵活现具有“生命”的文书，让这位学生一下与其他申请者拉开了距离。

案例②

学生档案：最终获录耶鲁大学，同时获得来自加州大学伯克利分校、加州大学洛杉矶分校、加州大学圣地亚哥分校的offer。

文书节选：I refuse to go to bed without taking a shower. Though showering can be time-consuming, I am unable to forsake this beloved activity. Over the years it has trained me in the area of commitment, equipping me to excel in my academic studies. My high school record attests to the fact that I neglect either my daily shower or my shcolastic studies, I will only experience a feeling of uncleanliness.

I am not the only person in the house who showers. Thus, I have been required to learn how to work around my family’s schedules, sharpening my skills of time-management in the process. These skills benefit many areas of my life. Last year Arilington High School was able to take home the Envirothon state championship because of the team members’s ablities to manage their time. As a team co-captain, it was especially important that I learn to arrange my schedule. I have always been able to allot time for showering, no matter how busy I may be, and in the same way, I managed to attend Envirothon practices while remaining involved in church activities and focused on my academic studies.

在申请文书中讨论洗澡这样一件小事，似乎有点“小题大做”了，可是这位同学用了洗澡这件小事，引出了自我管理这样一件大事。让招生官在阅读时，感受到的是“如果一个人对这些小事都能做到严以律己，那么在大事上，一定也是非常会自我管理的人”。文中，学生强调自己“不洗澡绝对不上床睡觉”“无论多晚多忙一定要洗澡”“做每天计划安排时，一定会预留出洗澡的时间”，以此来突出自己是一个对个人卫生、自我承诺、时间管理上有非常高要求的人。并且通过这样一件小事，引出自己在学习中，在参加竞赛中，在与人相处中，这样的清洁的习惯带给自己在时间管理、为他人着想、对承诺的重视等不同方面的影响。

在申请名校的过程中，我们切记不可为了迎合学校的要求去杜撰一个虚幻的自己，文书最强调的是真实。我们应该是根据自己的实际情况，去匹配不同的名校，而不是根据学校的要求，去描绘一个虚假的自己。前哈佛招生官Malcolm曾说：“文书就像是不见面的Interview，美国大学几乎完全是通过各种申请文书来审核你的资质的，如果你没有把各种文书做好，你就无法充分展示自己的优势并打动招生官。”
