1. pay sb back
to do something unpleasant to someone because they have done something unpleasant to you 使(某人)付出代价，向(某人)报复
He swore he'd pay her back for all she'd done to him.

2. pay for sth
to be punished for doing something bad to someone else, or to suffer because of a mistake that you made 为…付出代价，因…得到报应
We all pay for our mistakes in some way at some time.

3.pay sth in
