A-level英语情境词“pay”的使用

A-level英语中,生活情境词是再正常不过了。比如买东西付钱的话题,一说到付钱,大家都能想到这个单词,“pay”。但是,大家对这个词的所以使用方法和使用语境都了解吗?下面来看看“pay”的语法

频率最高的搭配:Pay attention>pay tax >pay price>pay bill

词形变化:Pays,paid,paid

Pay词义解析:

1.to give money to someone for something you want to buy or for services provided 付费;付酬

How much did you pay for the products?

你买那些商品花了多少钱?

I pay my taxes.

我缴付税款。

I'll pay you the $5 back tomorrow.

我明天还你那5美元。

I paid the driver (in/with) cash.

我付给司机现金。

2. to give money to someone for work that they have done 付钱(给…),支付(…)报酬

Laywer may be boring but at least it pays well.

当律师可能很乏味,但至少收入可观。

Most of these women are very poorly paid and work in terrible conditions.

这些妇女大多工资很低,且工作条件恶劣。

3. to give a profit or advantage to someone or something 有收益,有利可图,有好处

It never pays to take risks where human safety is concerned.

凡是涉及人身安全时,冒险决不会有什么好处。

4. to give or do something 给予,致以;进行

The commander paid tribute to the courage of his troops.

司令员高度赞扬了部队官兵的勇敢无畏。

It's always nice to be paid a compliment.

A crowd of people gathered to pay their respects to the soldier.

一群人聚集在一起向军人致敬。

1. pay sb back

to do something unpleasant to someone because they have done something unpleasant to you 使(某人)付出代价,向(某人)报复

He swore he'd pay her back for all she'd done to him.

他发誓要让她为对他所做的一切付出代价。

2. pay for sth

to be punished for doing something bad to someone else, or to suffer because of a mistake that you made 为…付出代价,因…得到报应

We all pay for our mistakes in some way at some time.

我们都会在某个时候以某种方式为我们所犯的错误付出代价。

He tricked me and I'm going to make him pay for it!

他欺骗了我,我会让他得到报应的!

3.pay sth in

to put money into a bank account 把(钱)存入银行账户

If you go to the bank, will you pay these money in for me?

你去银行的话能帮我把这些支票存进去吗?

4. pay sth off

to pay back money that you owe 还清(欠款)

We should be able to pay off the debt within two years.

我们应该能在两年内还清债务。

俚语:

1. pay through the nose

to pay too much money for something 付费过高;花钱过多

We paid through the nose to get the car fixed.

我们修这辆车花了大价钱,结果还是不能正常行驶。

2. put paid to sth

to finish or destroy something 结束,了结;毁掉

A knee injury has put paid to her chances of getting into the final.

一次膝盖受伤断送了她进入决赛的机会。

3. pay dividends

If something you do pays dividends, it causes good results at a time in the future. (将来)有好处,得到好结果
