Apple hides secret job advert to attract world's besttech talent

The world's biggest technology companies are knownfor asking difficult questions and running strangecompetitions in a bid to attract top talent.

Apple took the recruiting game a step further thisweek and hid a job advert on its website. Theposting, for a technical engineer, said: "Hey there! You found us. We are looking for atalented engineer to develop a critical infrastructure component."

But the stunt backfired when a journalist discovered the post by mistake. Zack Whittaker, security editor for US news site ZDNet, stumbled on the advert when he was analysinginformation sent from iPhone apps to advertisers.

He added that he did not apply for the job, which has now been removed.

Apple is not the first organisation to seek new technical talent in innovative ways. The use ofpuzzles and cryptic challenges to find people skilled in security stretches back to World WarTwo, when code breaking site Bletchley Park published puzzles in newspapers.

Technology companies also have a reputation for cryptic interview questions. Apple haspreviously asked difficult questions of candidates, to which it is normally looking for specificanswers. People who have interviewed at the company have reported questions including, "Areyou smart?" and "If you had to float an iPhone in mid-air, how would you do it?"
